In the south of Rotterdam, there is a neighborhood called Tweebosbuurt with a bit less than 600 flats and its « emptying »/eviction is in process. The goal is obviously to destroy it (to replace it by 300 housing, approx. 2 or 3 times more expensive). BUT there is a huge resistance coming from the inhabitants and from the small squat community of the city. It’s a working-class district with parcs and I would say almost a quarter of the flats remain empty.

We settled here without really realizing what an opportunity it was : it is extremely simple to settle here. At the moment, with only 3 squats the police is out of her depth. The company in charge of the destruction is not « on the square » but has no efficient way of organizing to illegaly evict us : they are not enough and honestly no one expected any form of resistance here.

We are seeking for people who would like to live here, and if we’re a bit more, then we think it is really easy to impose a power balance in such a place, not only to impede or even cease the destruction but also to potentially « conquer » by squatting a whole neighborhood in one of the largest european metropolis. I believe what’s going on here has a huge potential to be significant.

So it’s a call to anyone who wants to get involved against one of the most agressive forms of gentrification I could see so far, squat in a working-class « supporting » district (litteraly the neighbors give us the building’s keys and help us chase agency’s agents. They offer help in the middle of the street when we open squats during the day, how surprising !) and where police is « totally out of it » and doesn’t even probably what to do. For few weeks now, inhabitants get organized and do some cool actions (such as pull syfex plates off using angle grinders in the middle of the day, stack them in front of the agency’s office and block its door)

Don’t hesitate to massively spread this information. And I insist on the fact that it’s happening now, like it is a matter of 2 months, maximum. If people want to get involved in this, don’t dither to come over soon ! We can host people and we do openings on friday nights. (so that it is chill for the 48 hours)
